An exhibition in Madrid

This year I joined Comiqueras+, an association for women and non-binary people in comics. This month, we are having our first exhibition, “A Thousand Looks for One Medium.”
(esp) Este año me uní a Comiqueras+, una asociación de mujeres y personas no binarias del cómic. Este mes celebramos nuestra primera exposición, «Un medio, mil miradas».
It will be inaugurated at the Madrid Comic Summit (a professional comic book conference in Spain), at the Elena Fortún Public Library (Retiro).

A short review of Femiñetas

Yesterday I went to the Femiñetas Festival at Fabra i Coats (Barcelona) to present and sell my zines, prints, and original illustrations.
Femiñetas is a transoceanic graphic and feminist project. They celebrated their 7th anniversary with a big festival that included fascinating talks, creative workshops, and a printed art fair.
(esp) Ayer fui al Festival Femiñetas en Fabra i Coats (Barcelona) para presentar y vender mis fanzines, prints e ilustraciones originales.
Femiñetas es un proyecto gráfico y feminista transoceánico. Celebraron su séptimo aniversario con un gran festival que incluyó charlas muy interesantes, talleres creativos y una feria de arte impreso.
I was very lucky to share a table with illustrator Juani Bengali and to discover the amazing work of other graphic artists. You always learn a lot from seeing other people’s art.
When the festival ended, I felt tired but very happy to have shared my work and spoken with so many people. I am very grateful for this journey, though I definitely need some rest.
(esp) Tuve la suerte de compartir mesa con la ilustradora Juani Bengali y de descubrir el increíble trabajo de otras artistas gráficas. Siempre se aprende mucho al ver el arte de otras personas.
Cuando terminó el festival, me sentí cansada pero muy feliz de haber compartido mi trabajo y conversado con tanta gente. Estoy muy agradecida por esta experiencia, aunque ahora necesito descansar un poco.
Santa Jordina

Every April 23rd in Catalonia, we celebrate Sant Jordi (Saint George), a medieval festival where lovers give each other a rose and a book.
Since I was little, it has been my favorite day of the year. My father used to give me a rose, until my boyfriend took over the tradition.
(esp) Cada 23 de abril en Cataluña celebramos Sant Jordi, una fiesta medieval en la que los enamorados se regalan una rosa y un libro.
Desde pequeña, ha sido mi día favorito del año. Mi padre solía regalarme una rosa, hasta que mi novio tomó el relevo de la tradición.
A few years ago, I drew this illustration: «Santa Jordina» (Saint Georgina), a feminine version for all the women who celebrate their saint.
In the foreground, you’ll see Santa Jordina with her horse. In the background stands the giant, labyrinthine castle. Gothic medieval paintings inspired me in choosing the color palette.
(esp) Hace unos años, dibujé esta ilustración: «Santa Jordina», una versión femenina para todas las mujeres que celebran su santo.
En primer plano, se ve a Santa Jordina con su caballo. Al fondo, aparece el castillo gigantesco y laberíntico. Me inspiré en las pinturas góticas medievales para elegir la paleta de colores.
Everything counts

When the collective Exquisite Workers assigned me a color palette and a position in a grid, I had to imagine something new—just like when I was a child, and the teacher said, «free drawing.»
The shades of blue inspired me to think about the future—the darkest ones, the night. And my mind could only think of the old covers of sci-fi books. I wanted to create something like that.
(esp) Cuando el colectivo Exquisite Workers me propuso una paleta de colores y una posición en la cuadrícula, tuve que imaginar algo nuevo, como cuando era pequeña y la profesora decía «hoy dibujo libre».
Los tonos azules me hicieron inspirarme por el futuro, el más oscuro en la noche. Y en mi cabeza solo podía pensar en las cubiertas de los libros antiguos de ciencia ficción. Quería hacer algo parecido a ello.
«Thief from the Future» is an illustration of a woman looking back as she escapes with a bag full of bills. Every detail is important, so I searched for references to create the right atmosphere: a jumpsuit inspired by Thierry Mugler, a Yamaha motorcycle prototype, a Louis Vuitton bag… a retro-futuristic style.
(esp) «Ladrona del futuro» es una ilustración de una mujer mirando atrás mientras escapa con un bolso repleto de billetes. Cada detalle es importante, así que busque referentes para crear una buena atmosfera: el mono de Thierry Mugler, el prototipo de moto de Yamaha, el bolso de Louis Vuitton, … un estilo retrofuturista.
I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed drawing it.
